An elderly woman has been arrested after the Air Canada flight on which she was travelling on was forced to make a diversion to Shannon airport on Friday.
It’s understood that the woman became disruptive on board the transatlantic flight and that at least one crew member was assaulted.
The woman was believed to be travelling in First Class had been restrained by cabin crew members who alerted the flight crew.
Gardaí (Irish police force) and airport police officers were standing by for Air Canada flight AC877 when it landed at Shannon around 8:15pm.
The Boeing 777-300 jet was flying from Frankfurt to Toronto and was about 1,000km northwest of Shannon when the crew opted to turn around.
The woman was arrested on arrival and taken to the local police station.
