AirAsia flight #FD178 to Bangkok has made an emergency landing shortly after takeoff at Velana Airport in Maldives. Flames and loud bangs were noticed from engine during takeoff of the Airbus A320 (reg. HS-BBT).

A Tap Air Portugal Air bus A320 suffered engine failure at the beginning of takeoff from runway 03 at Lisbon. The aircraft (reg. CS-TMW) was taking off to Venice but aborted takeoff after the left-hand engine vented a jet of flames. This A320-200 (reg. CS-TMW), is 18 years old powered by CFM56-5B engines.
