According to a company memo seen by the Dallas Morning News, the airline is asking non-union employees to help its staff during the month of June through August in international terminals scheduling, planning and communication.
In a statement, a spokesperson for American Airlines said:
“As we look forward to welcoming back more of our customers this summer, we know they’re counting on us to deliver a reliable operation and help them feel comfortable as they return after many months away from travelling.
“That’s something our frontline teams are experts on as they regularly go above and beyond to take care of our customers. To ensure they have the support they need this summer and beyond, our corporate support teams will provide additional support at DFW.”
These employees won’t be offered any bonus compensation, and those who choose to volunteer will work a six-hour shift. Those willing to participate will have to sign up for a minimum of three shifts.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recorded 1,984,658 people at checkpoints on Sunday, the highest number of screenings since the start of the pandemic.
